Chapter 5

"But my father is...dead. He was killed years ago"

Cassius lets out a sigh "Yes, I know that now. I didn't know that last night. Well, I sensed that something was off when I came to the town Keiran said he'd be living in with Hannah. I sensed power similar to his, but it wasn't his. It was yours"

"I'm confused. How did you know my dad and why were you looking for him?" I demand.

Cassius lets out a deeper sigh this time. "I suppose I will start with how I knew your father. Get comfortable, Elias, because this will be a long story".

*    *    *    *     *     *    *

"There's a place far from here somewhere in the woods, where everything has functioned the same way since the 1500s. It was once ruled by two kingdoms, the Unseelie court, which is one of the two faerie courts and the vampyre court"

"I already know about the courts: the Night court, the Bright court and the vampyre court. My  dad told me before he died. Continue." I say, not wanting him to explain the court system to me like someone would to a child.

"I lived in the place ruled by the two courts, but I was a rouge even then and would answer to no one. I met a vampyre named Keiran. He said we should get a band of other rouges and form a gang. We found five other vampyres: Gustav, Lanzo, Franco, Marius, and Rolf. We fought one another to find out who the strongest was. It turned out to be Keiran. Now, Keiran was very strange. He rarely fed, and when he did, it wasn't in front of any of us. His eyes were different too. They weren't ringed with death and immortality like a normal vampyre.  However, I didn't question him, and figured it was just because he was strong. I was his second in command and looked up to him like a little brother,"

Cassius shifts his position, indicating that he'll probably shift the tone of the story.

"One day both me and Keiran were snatched from our gang and taken prisoner. I assumed it was because of our many crimes. After a while, Keiran said he had a confession to make and it was that he was really a faerie. He ran away and decided to become a rouge when the Unseelie court was taken over by the Seelie court. We were prisoners of the Seelie court because Keiran was a renegade that wouldn't surrender to them. He said he told me the truth because he knew that we wouldn't live through their torture. I asked him why they took me prisoner if that were the case and Keiran thought it was because I was with him at the time and they took me just to be on the safe side. I climbed the dungeon wall up to the window asked him if there was any wood by the window. He said that faerie dungeons are only made of stone and iron and that the place stinks of iron. Iron would not bother me. I easily pulled all of it off of the stone opening and we escaped that night. Keiran said he was leaving the gang and going to this town. I told him he was more than welcome to stay with us, but he said there was no point in leading a gang while lying to them anymore and that there was a human woman he wanted to settle down with. I let him go, but not before giving him a necklace with our gang's symbol on it. He gladly took it and said he'd never forget me or the others. That was the last I saw of Keiran, but I knew he was happy in the human world and he contacted me with letters,"

"That must be the necklace he never took off. He always told me the necklace was very important and that he'd give it to me when he died, but he never told me what the symbol meant. I got it when he died, and I've never taken it off," I say, making Cassius laugh.

"Like father, like son" he says.

"Don't say that"

"I beg your pardon?"

"I love my dad and all, but for some reason that saying bothers me. I could never live up to him, or be as great as he was," I paused, "That saying is also a bit chauvinistic."

"That's because you are not Keiran. You are his son, but you are not him. Even though your
power was similar to his, and you were even wearing his necklace, I knew you were someone else when I first saw you last night"

"That's because I look like my mom"

"No, it's deeper than that. You make your own destiny and be who you want to be"

"Are you sure you don't watch Disney movies?"

"What is this Disney you speak of? That is irrelevant to the subject"

"No it's not," I sigh "Never mind. What I really want to know is why you were fighting me last night, knowing that I was Keiran's son"

"Isn't it obvious? You were trying to kill me! You would stop at nothing for my blood. I could not really get you to stop unless I did something to surprise you,"

"So that's why you kissed me like that. I thought you were just crazy...or gay"

"Gay? I take it gay doesn't mean happy anymore?"

I clear my throat before answering. "Um, gay means homosexual"

"Oh I see"

"Yeah" I manage to get out, feeling more uncomfortable each second, especially with Cassius not saying anything.

"Are you...you know...homosexual?" I ask him.

"No, I like women and men" he says, which isn't the response I expected.

"Oh" is all I can think of to say.

"You have no need to worry. I understand that you are not interested in a relationship with someone of our gender. You are heterosexual, are you not?"

"That's called straight. I'm straight"

"And what am I if I like both genders?"

"You're bi-sexual. We call that bi. Look, can we not talk about this?"

"And what are you if you are uncomfortable towards people that are not straight like you?"

"A homophobe, but that's not the point. The – wait a minute! You already knew all this didn't you?"
"You just now realized that?" Cassius laughs "I catch glimpses of television. I'm not completely in the Dark Ages and I'm not really bi-sexual," he pauses  "Or am I?"

"I don't know. You tell me"

"Why should it matter to you if I am or not? Are you a homophobe or do you really like men and you're afraid to admit it?"

"Stop that, you're not my therapist! I'm just curious, that's all"

"That's too bad, because I'm not going to tell you my sexual preferences."

"Well, then tell me this: why were you tracking my father all of a sudden?" I ask, causing Cassius to sigh once more.

"It seems that we got way off topic. That's the other thing I was planning to tell you. I came to warn your father, but since he is dead, I need to warn you," he says, standing up.

"Warn me about what?"

"Over 500 years ago, there was a vampyre king named Eramus. He had golden blonde hair and pitch black eyes. He was also young, ambitious, and very powerful. Eramus had a plan to exterminate all faeries – except he called them witches at the time – and make vampyres the dominate race, with humans only in existence for their blood, of course. Many vampyres liked this idea, but some of them did not. There were vampyres that argued that we should keep peace with faeries, because we help one another enforce laws and make great fighting teams. However most vampyres are selfish and want the world to themselves. When Eramus was assassinated by a group of vampyres that saw through him and his means of dictatorship, his ideas were gone with him and eventually vampyres forgot about him. Somehow, it seems that Eramus is alive again, and now we're all...How do I say this where you will understand it? We're all... screwed,"

"But Eramus was killed. How is he alive? And how do you know?"

"I only know of this through the stories passed down to me from my creator, because I've only been around for nearly 300 years. However, he has witnessed these things firsthand and as Eramus was dying he said that he would return and that we would know by the sound of his voice that moves the earth and silences the lambs. Every vampyre in the world knows he's coming back, because we can feel it in the earth. That is why I came to warn your father,"

"Silences the lambs? Are you talking about the silence that happened at my school?"

"Yes. Every vampyre has telepathic and other supernatural powers. That is how I was able to stop the silence. However, it takes a very powerful vampyre to influence that many people in the first place. Eramus is alive, and he goes to your school, Elias,"
Chapter 5. I think there's too much dialogue =_= :faint:

I'm playing with homosexuality in this. I won't confirm or deny Cassius's preferences. I did this because of all the homophobes in my town.
